The Humminbird Corroboree Park Challenge started way back in 1988. For many of the early years it was the clubs’ marquee event until the Barra Nationals came along.
To this day it receives massive support from the greater community largely due to it being one of the few competitions open to all members of the public. From the outset tournament was traditionally run over the Easter long weekend. Being one of the peak times for Barra fishing, other tournaments began to sprout up also running over the same weekend. This ultimately impacted on numbers competing in the event. In the mid 2000’s the decision was made to move the tournament to later in the year around the build up when no other Barra fishing competitions were being held. While slow to get traction the move proved a positive one and numbers began to increase again back to the thriving event it is today.
From the outset our fantastic partners Humminbird have been the naming sponsor and have continued to provide consistent valuable ongoing support year after year.
Through the various fun and novelty activities arranged over the weekend the competitor interaction at the tournament has a heavy focus on involving families and juniors.
The Humminbird Corroboree Park Challenge has proven for the Palmerston Game Fishing club to be a fantastic vehicle for engaging the greater fishing community. It is firmly entrenched as one of the “big 4” events run by the club.
